This sure seems to be the year for films that faithfully try to recreate their time periods, in this case, 1600s Massachusetts. (Just try making out some of the vintage dialogue.) The new world is a scary place, and one pilgrim family gets kicked out of town, sent to live on their own at the edge of the scary forest wilderland, and weird things start happening, or, worse, are imagined by these strict Calvinists. Pretty soon, dontcha know, one of the daughters is considered a witch by the rest of the family. Family members start dropping like flies. Whatever.
