THE THIRD MAN

A great classic from the 1940s that enjoyed a brief cinema roadshow with a restored, remastered version in crisp black and white. Welles is of course excellent, as are all the characters. Some of the acting is a bit dated in that 40s stage-acting way, particularly the female role played by Baroness Alida Maria Laura Altenburger von Marckenstein u. Frauenberg (aka Alida Valli), whose acting wasn't quite as impressive as her real-life name. But still, this is one of the essential films of all time. SCORE: 75.
